Hey there...

Apologies for not being around much this week.

Possibly having a relapse with my Crohn's Disease so I haven't really been that fussed with coming online.

I'll catch up with your blogs sometime soon though. Hope I haven't missed too much!

Project Perfect

I saw this on Life of a Sweetaholic's blog and thought I'd do it too...

1. Post a photo that you like of yourself and say in a couple of sentences why you like it.
2. State 3 things that you DON'T like about yourself but say why others may love to be like that.
3. State 3 things that you DO like about yourself.

A photo of myself that I really like:

This was taken by Paul on our first holiday to Rome in 2009. I like it because I think I look slightly mysterious in it and I also don't look sweaty or redfaced which is slightly surprising considering where we were.

Three things I don't like about myself, turned into positives:

#1 The fact that I have one crooked tooth that makes me self-conscious when I smile. You will be hard pressed to find a picture of me (that hasn't been deleted) with a chesire cat style grin. Despite this, Paul hasn't been put off and finds my smile beautiful

#2 The fact that I'm five foot three. The only thing I hate about being this height is that it is very easy to look fatter than I actually am. Paul however, finds my height adorable and I do like the term "petite"

#3 The fact that my laugh can sometimes turn into a cackle OR sound like I'm revving an engine depending on how funny I find something. If I find something really funny then I do one of those silent laughs and cry simultaneously.

Three things that I like about myself:

#1 The fact that I am quite pale. For years I was bullied for looking like a ghost but not once was I even tempted to try fake tan. For one, all my bullies couldn't apply it right and ended up looking like streaky bacon. Why the fuck would I want to look like that? I love my pale skin, always have always will. What got me through that particular bullying episode was remembering that Snow White had skin as white as snow - making her a "ghost" too. And look at her, she's gone down in fairytale history as being the fairest of them all...

#2 The fact that I talk with a slight American accent as well as sounding quite posh. I love it. I sound very middle class despite being common as muck

#3 The fact that I have large eyes and skinny wrists. I don't know why but they've always been my two favourite body features.

The Woman In Black: Review

WARNING: THIS POST WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS!

Before I begin, I've always wanted to see the play as I heard it was pretty scary and the story was quite interesting to me. I never got to see the play unfortunately so when the movie came out, with Daniel Radcliffe as the lead, I jumped at the chance. I didn't particularly pay much attention to the fact that it was a ghost story until the opening scene left me dreading what was to come over the next hour or so.

Seriously, anyone who is not disturbed at the sight of three ten year old girls commiting suicide is not human.

So moving on to the story. A young man, still mourning the death of his wife in childbirth four years ago, agrees to travel to a village and sort out a dead woman's will by sorting through piles and piles of documents at her home. Sounds tedious right? Well it gets better. Upon arriving at the village, he is instantly greeted by a hostile atmosphere as no one wants him to be there.

He eventually goes to the house of the dead woman only to see said dead woman standing in the grounds. As he mentions this to fellow villagers, they panic and yet more children kill themselves. It turns out that everytime someone sees The Woman In Black a child dies in a horrific way. And trust me, they are horrific. One girl drinks poison and another sets herself on fire. The three girls at the start of the film jump out of a window and we learn that one boy drowned himself. We find out that they do this because she tells them to. Cue flashbacks to their death scenes and all you see is her standing in the background. It's freaky as fuck!

Eventually Daniel figures out that the woman he is investigating had a son but because she was insane, her sister took her son away from her. After a few years, her son dies in the surrounding marshes and she vows never to forgive her sister for not saving him. Daniel feels responsible for all the recent child deaths and sets about fixing things.

He does this by finding her dead son's body in the marsh land, nearly drowning in the process and reunites them by burying them together. All is at peace and as he is about to leave, his own son, who was traveling down to greet him, sees The Woman In Black and walks in front of an oncoming train. Daniel grabs him but do they make it? No, no they both die. But his wife is there to walk them into Heaven. This is a very sad ending and I was pissed off that The Woman In Black refused to "move on" so to speak. But oh well.

Now throughout the time Daniel was at the dead woman's house, all sorts of freaky shit happened. I was literally jumping at every. fucking. thing. Two girls who were whimpering actually left the cinema because they were that scared. And at times, I wanted to join them! At one point I had my scarf in my mouth as I was scared that I would let out shrieks lol!

I was also annoyed at the pivotal moment in the movie when a man's phone went off and he answered it! The only justice we had was that at that particular moment, The Woman In Black screamed blue murder and all you heard was the guy on the other end go, "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?!"

It was fucking hilarious.

Highlights:
  • The story
  • The fact that I was constantly on edge
  • All the scares
Rating: 5/5

Guest Post: Mark

Hello everyone, Mark here. A while ago I promised Hazel a guest post, and it was so long ago actually she forgot I was going to do it! I would have left it but I had a sense of obligation, what with being an English gent and all.  If anything I'm sorry I left it this long. I'm also glad that she's the only one who claimed her prize. I have enough trouble coming up with things for myself usually. Though occasionally I come up with something that for some reason or another I don't want to post on my own blog. Typically because I deem it too emotional. Though given how emotional I've been on there lately (due in part to my current real life over-emotionalism) I can't really claim that any more.

Anyway, what I came up with was a poem, and so I have decided to ask Hazel if I can use her blog to share this poem with you all. So, without further ado, I present "Never" (a working title, I be rubbish with titles)

To say that I am lonely
Would not be entirely true
There are people in my life
Such as you

But when the time comes
To lay my head
All I feel
Is the emptiness of my bed

My arms, they are lonely
My heart, she is weak
My hands, they hold no other
My future, it is bleak

Am I unloveable?
Is beauty not skin deep?
What am I to believe
When solitude is the only love I keep

There are those who say they love me
Many more who won't
I wonder if it's that they can't
Or that they don't

Though what I want
That is plain to see
All I want
Is someone who wants me

When I'm alone in the cold and the dark
When the night is setting in
What I could really do with most
Is the warmth of another's skin

While there is something to be said
About the length of forever
It is nothing
Compared to the length of never

When I got to the end I couldn't resist saying something I came up recently, though someone else may have said it before. "Forever may be a long time, but it is nothing compared to never".

It was so deep Jessie asked me where I got it from. Anyway, if you're still alive after that, and if you've stopped laughing at my patheticness, I'd like to see you drop by some time. I can't promise tea and biscuits though. Sadly.

Best. Boyfriend. Ever

This post is dedicated to Paul for suprising me with a beautiful bouquet of flowers today! So thanks sweetheart, they really did cheer me up after a crap day at uni!

Happy Valentine's Day

It seems to be all the rage these past few days to discuss Valentine's Day so I thought I'd share my thoughts on this controversial holiday too.

My Valentine's Day cupcake

Now I call it controversial as people either love it or hate it. Personally, I love it and despise how people can be so cynical about it. The cynical people are not necessarily all single as you might expect. I know many couples who find the whole holiday embarrassing and stupid. These people argue that partners should show they love each other every day of the year and not just one particular random day in February.

I agree with this. Partners should love and cherish each other every day of the year and not feel pressurised by social expectation to be the perfect other half on this day. Or to bankrupt themselves buying twelve dozen roses or Belgian chocolates.

However, if you have this view then the likes of Mother's Day and Father's Day shouldn't be celebrated either because surely you should cherish your mother and father every day of the year as well?

I think people read too much into this holiday and thus the hype is generated. Whether you're in a relationship or not, simply spend the day doing something nice that you are going to enjoy. Just don't be cynical about it! It's meant to be a celebration of love after all!

I hate the term Vomit Day and not once, when I was single, did I ever curse those in relationships on Valentine's Day. I simply ignored it. So why can't others do the same? I hate how people say it's a stupid holiday, then those who enjoy the holiday (like myself) are made to feel silly for liking it.

On a final note, to anyone who says they don't like it because it's helping companies become richer - I'm assuming you don't buy into the concept of Halloween, Christmas, New Year, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Independence Day, Birthdays, Anniversaries or St Patrick's Day then either?

But anyways, rant over.

Mulan - I'll Make A Man Out Of You

So if you read my previous post then you'll know that I was in a bit of a down and out mood yesterday. This song is therefore thanks to Fang because he said to get out of my depressive mood soon as my happy posts are more fun and so I'm posting this because it is my go to "happy song"

I just adore it.

Going Gaga...

I am not a huge fan of shopping. I'd even go as far to say that I hate it. Well, seriously dislike it at least. I don't know why as stereotypically, being a woman means that I should love it.

But alas this is not the case. I don't like spending money as I get terribly guilty when I do. I don't know why but if it saves me from becoming bankrupt someday then it will be worth it.

Until lately when I discovered something when passing the time in TK Maxx...

I simply adore shopping for the home! I went absolutely gaga over ornaments, candles, mirrors, pillows, kitchen utensils and lights! It was insane. In the end though I bought one thing which I have been after for a while. It's perfect and can't wait til the spring/summer to use it.

A beautiful picnic basket at £13.00 which was an absolute steal...

Thanks to TK Maxx I seriously can't wait to move out so that I can decorate my own home!

Last Friday Night...

It was Paul's birthday as well as our four year anniversary. Thanks so much for all your birthday wishes and congratulations. It was really sweet of you and meant a lot to us both. To celebrate both events we spent the day shopping before having lunch at a local restaurant. It was delicious!

We then headed to the Beech Hill Hotel to spend the night. I've never heard of this hotel before even though it's just outside of town but I loved it instantly. It's quite posh but that just added to the luxury! We even had a queen sized bed! It was huge!

The hotel also had lovely gardens to walk around so that is what we did the following morning. It was very peaceful and relaxing listening to the waterfalls...

Overall, it was a perfect day...

Hello from Northwest Indiana!

Song of the Week #11

Escaflowne - Memories of Fanelia

So I recently mentioned that I finished rewatching the anime Escaflowne. It was a childhood favourite of mine and still is to this day. This song is one of my favourites from the soundtrack. It's absolutely beautiful and just goes to show how amazing the violin is...

Teenage Girls Baffle Me...

I'm going to share with you a McDonald's advertisement. Not very exciting but bare with me, there's a point to this.

In it, there are a bunch of conversations going on but the only one that bugs me is the one concerning the teenage girl.

She says that a guy texted her back saying, "See you later" and this apparently confuses her as if it's a really cryptic message with a hidden meaning. So what does it mean? IT MEANS HE WILL SEE YOU LATER!

He's probably busy and can't text you anymore at the minute and so instead of not texting you back at all, he says "See you later" as a sort of goodbye message. Or you've arranged to meet up and so he says that as he knows he'll be seeing you again later on that day!

It isn't confusing at all.

What's worse is that there is a longer version of this advert where her friends basically back her up with saying that "See you later" is such an awful thing to text back. Wtf? No wonder so many relationships don't last if girls think that that is such a terrible thing to do. Sigh.

Like I said, teenage girls baffle me...

How do you like my anniversary present? Tis a purple masquerade mask!

Fang's Questions:

Q1 How was your day? Anything exciting happened?
Shit so far really. Was at uni and despite it being a short introductory lecture into that module, I was told that we have another essay based exam for it plus two pieces of coursework that are group based. Kill. Me. Now. Though tonight should be better when Paul comes up!

Q2 Ever done anything that falls waaay outside of the social norms of your gender/age group? ie watched My Little Pony and enjoyed it or something?
I think this question would have been more relevant if I was asked it at high school. Back then I listened to a lot of classical music which was way out of the social norm for a twelve year old girl. Well, compared to the girls in my year group anyway.

Q3 If you were to classify yourself into a certain social group/style (ie gothic, emo, stoner, etc) which one would you place yourself in?
In high school I did go through an emo stage but now I'd classify myself as a geek. And proud.

        Q4 Favourite Sesame Street character?
NONE OF THEM! All forms of muppets, puppets or ventriloquist dummies freak me out! I'm deadly serious when I say that I want to punch Elmo in the face.

Q5 Seek out a popular YouTube video, check the comments. What are your thoughts on those people?

I don't really have any thoughts on them. They enjoyed the video like I did so... yeah.... Moving on!

Q6 Do you have any neurotic/OCD tendencies?

Everytime I wash my hands I lather and rinse the soap off three times and I always have to make sure that pens have their lids on or that they are unclicked so that the ink doesn't dry out. AM I CRAZY?

Q7 What's the meaning of life?

To just live it and enjoy it

            Q8 Do you collect something?

I used to collect rubbers (erasers for my American followers) when I was younger but now I just collect mementos.

            Q9 Ultimate fantasy?

That I'm an elf and own a pet dragon

            Q10 Weirdest dream?

I have so many weird and wonderful dreams that I'll just tell you about last nights dream which was a mash up of Merlin, The Three Muskateers and Pirates of the Carribean. It was epic. I was D'Artagnan.

Q11 Have you enjoyed this "11 Questions" thing?
Yes, it was alright but I now have to answer another eleven questions...

              Stephanie's Questions:

Q1 If you could time travel, would you go to the future or the past? Why?

I'd travel to the past so that I could experience my favourite era's, the Victorian era and Medieval era, for myself.

Q2 What is your favourite fast food place?

              Lately it has been McDonalds!

Q3 Have you done the personality test? (here) What is your personality type?

Mine is INFJ: Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling and Judging. Pretty accurate I must say!

              Q4 Are you superstitious?

Not really, though I do believe in jinxes...

Q5 Who is your biggest inspiration?

Probably JK Rowling who was a single mother on the welfare, who became a writing legend...

Q6 Did you have an imaginary friend as a child?

Nope! Always wish I had though

Q7 What is your favourite season?

Autumn. It's not too cold or hot, plus the mutli-coloured leaves makes everything look gorgeous

              Q8 Chocolate or lollies?

              Oooh... both!

Q9 Are you allergic to anything?

Nope! Not that I know of anyway...

Q10 What are you most talented at?

Um... reading? Seriously, I have no talent

              Q11 Are you a grammar nazi? :P

I claim to be but I'm really not. Probably best that I'm not though as poor grammar would annoy me more than it does now.

              My Questions:
              1. Who would you swap places with, just for a day?
              2. Tattoos: Yay or Nay?
              3. Favourite cartoon growing up?
              4. Are you still close to your best friend from high school/college?
              5. Worst fear?
              6. Do you believe in true love?
              7. Name one thing you'd like to achieve/do in your lifetime
              8. Favourite book?
              9. Who is your current celebrity crush?
              10. Twitter: Yay or Nay?
              11. What are your guilty pleasures?
              I Tag:

              Cricketfreak : InsomniaStrikes : Kathy : Leah

              There Can Be Only One!

I am your Overlord and to dwell in my realm you must adhere to these three rules!

#1 There will be no hunting or poaching of any kind. All creatures, great and small are to be respected and cared for by everyone. Any deliberate attempt at causing harm to our wildlife will not be tolerated. You will be punished under the "eye for an eye" agreement. No exceptions.

#2 Time can be manipulated. But only for just causes or simply for handiness sakes. Students with deadlines can freeze time so that they can get their coursework done stress free and without needing to pull all-nighters. Those who have missed buses, trains or flights can rewind time in order to make them. No one shall ever be late for work or class, so much so that the word "punctual" will become a redundant adjective. No longer will "time fly" whilst having fun, it will last for as long as you see fit!

#3 Everyone will be sophisicated. There shall be no reality televison, chavs, falling out of nightclubs, one night stands, rowdy behaviour or jerks. Instead, everyone will enjoy dinner parties, masquerade balls, leisurely walks, reading, writing, horseback riding and learning a musical instrument or foreign language of their choice. The men will be gentlemen and the women will be ladies. Also, celebrities such as footballers and glamour models will not be put on pedestals. Instead it will the artists and authors of this world that will be respected and become role models for children.

If you do not like these rules of my kingdom then you can get out!

Thank you to Jewels for bestowing upon me, this award. I now bestow it upon:

You guys are my fellow Overlords!
