Archery, to me, is one of the coolest sports around
Seriously, who wouldn't want to be Katniss? Or Legolas from LOTR? Their skill with a bow and arrow are second to none and yes I know they are fictional characters but that's besides the point.
I adore archery and would love to learn how to do it someday. Not only is it a skill that is predominant in my favourite genre: Fantasy, but it is also a skill that was predominant in one of my favourite era's of History: Medieval/Middle Ages.
Unfortunately with the development of more advanced weapons, the use of bows and arrows quickly became obsolete. Which I think is a crying shame.

I certainly have a man who adores his bows and arrows in this house. He even has a long bow (like Robin Hood etc)
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am not interested, I am fairly sure he would be encouraging you to try it.
Yeah when I found out your husband does it I was very jealous lol! He's very lucky :)
DeleteWhat? No Robin Hood? Boooo. But I am with you. I would love to know how to do it properly. It's not so bad it's not a weapon that's used to much, it's gone from being associated with violence to being a past-time. It's a lot better to own a bow and arrow than it is to own a gun.
ReplyDeleteYeah I'd rather own a bow and arrow than a gun anyday! I completely forgot about Robin Hood but ah well
DeleteNot in the least! Bow and arrow are still very stealthy weapons! If you got good aim, you can snipe targets from afar. And unlike gun and bullet, no traceable mark is left on the projectile, and the weapon doesn't have a license that links to you either. Perfect for stealth-killing people, I'd say.
ReplyDelete(God what the hell am I even thinking.)
Archery is the shit, I really need to look into the possibility of taking archery classes around here.
Archery definitely is "the shit" and I'd love to take classes too! I agree with it being a stealthy weapon but I'd say it's harder to conceal than a gun lol!
DeleteI have tried archery three times. I'm not very good but it was a lot of fun! I like to pretend I'm Katniss when I'm doing it x
ReplyDeleteAww I'm jealous! Even if you say you're not very good at it at least you've tried it! :)
DeleteI've tried archery and failed miserably but I too would like to learn how to do it properly!x
ReplyDeleteAww I'm sure with practice you'd be great!
DeleteThe only time I have ever done archery was as part of team building events that I've organized for clients; and its pretty damn cool once you get the hang of it!
ReplyDeleteGood post; and looking forward to the rest of them during the #atozchallenge :)
Wow that sounds like a cool team building event! The ones I've been to have always been so shit and boring!
DeleteThank you, I hope you like the others just as much as this one!
it would be beyyyyyond awesome to know how to do it properly :D and yeah like mark said, no robin hood? how can you forget robin hood? :P
ReplyDeleteI only wanted one female archer and one male archer and Katniss and Legolas were the first two that came to mind!
DeleteI want to learn to handle a long bow but apparently I'm not strong enough to shoot an arrow, shooting it on target is just far away. -_-
ReplyDeleteBut I love Archery. May be I'd choose it above guns, but not if it is a sniper rifle. ;)
How could you not be strong enough? I'm sure it is hard to fire and hit targets though =/
DeleteB is for Bow, C is for Crossbow and D is for DAM missed the target.
ReplyDeleteHaha well that's a few posts covered for this challenge!
DeleteNot only does it have advantages in ranged combat, it looks awesome as well! I have to agree with you that it's a damned shame old-fashioned weapons went "out of style." If we need to have war, might as well use honest combat instead of machine guns and bioweapons. Wow, the strange things I think.
ReplyDeleteI once saw a ten-year-old boy shoot several arrows into the center of a target at a mock Viking fair, and wondered what I've been doing with my life.
Haha I don't find those things strange at all, I'd much rather they stuck to bows and arrows than bombs and gas!
DeleteAnd don't worry, if I'd have saw him I would have felt exactly the same
I would love to be able to do Archery, it looks like so much fun! Also, I love both Katniss and Legolas! Great post :)
ReplyDeleteIndeed it does look like a load of fun! Thank you!
DeleteIn our local paper's never-ending Hunger Games coverage, they did a front-page article on the increased interest and participation in archery. Bow and arrow sales are through the roof. Girls are having archery parties for their birthday.
ReplyDeleteCall it 'the Katniss effect' I suppose. Hopefully girls will stay interested long after the Hunger Games hype has died down.
Sounds like you're a little fed up with The Hunger Games lol!
DeleteBut that's good that there's more of an interest now, and hopefully it will stay around for a while :)
Only because I haven't seen it yet! :O
DeleteHaha! I haven't seen it yet either!
DeleteNow I want to buy a bow.
ReplyDeleteDitto
DeleteHey Hazel! You were actually one of the first blogs I was supposed to visit. I was in Boy Scouts. Because of this I have learned use and actually own a compound bow and arrow. I can't say I am as good as Katniss though.
ReplyDeleteHaha well that's cool!
DeleteAnd that's awesome! I really want to own one too!
Archery is awesome :-) My ex tried getting me interested in deer hunting, but sitting 40 feet up in the air in a tree stand just didn't do it for me. I was far more into the target shooting.
ReplyDeleteWhen my ex and I went our separate ways I gave away my equipment. Kind of wish now I hadn't; I miss target shooting at the range.
It's a shame you parted with your equipment but I say I'd be like you in that I'd prefer target shooting. I wouldn't be interested in shooting deer at all!
DeleteThe main reason why I gave it all away is because it was purchased for me by my ex...my one nephew has certainly gotten plenty of use out of it all over the years :-)
DeleteThat's understandle :(
DeleteAnd at least your nephew enjoys it :)
I used to do archery for years...until I discovered women, alcohol and very bad dancing. You should join a club and start learning.
ReplyDeleteLol! Indeed I should but I don't know if there are any nearby where I live, plus I wouldn't want to go on my own lol
DeleteI did have something to say, but then my mind went back to the hunger games...
ReplyDeletehappy A to Z

Lol okay, happy A to Z too!
DeleteWell, looking at all she's been through, I can't honestly say that I would want to be Katniss :P
ReplyDeleteTechnically yes, she's been through some shit. But I just meant being awesome at archery
DeleteI learned archery my freshman year at college. It's so much harder than it looks, you really need some upper body strength. You feel so powerful, though, when you finally hit your target!
ReplyDeleteLucky you! And I suppose that does make sense the more I think about it, I'd be screwed then because I'm so weak lol!
DeleteI must admit I am not interested in learning archery, but I absolutely loved Legolas in LOTR! From reading the other comments, I assume Katniss is a character in the movie "Hunger Games." Although I have read "The Most Dangerous Game," I don't think I want to watch the movie. Reading is one thing ... watching it played out in front my eyes would be too disturbing, especially since the ones doing the hunting and killing are teenagers.

i so want to see Hunger Games and great first post
ReplyDeleteMe too and thanks :)
DeleteI've wanted to have a go at archery for years!
ReplyDeleteI've not seen The Hunger Games yet but the scenes with Legolas shooting orcs in LOTR are some of my favourites - he always looks so cool with a bow!

They're some of my favourite scenes too!
DeleteI bet if you do a little internet research you might find an archery range near your home. I spotted one years ago right next to the Amtrak Surfliner's tracks in Southern California. While a bow and wrist guard will set you back some cash at least the arrows are reusable.
ReplyDeleteI just might ya know! You were lucky in finding one close by :) And yeah, I'm sure they are expensive!
DeleteOmgosh, such a cool post, thank you for sharing it. Great pictures! I found your blog from a comment you left on another blog and really love it, would you like to follow each other?
ReplyDeleteAlso, if you have facebook, I would be so grateful if you liked my page: http://www.facebook.com/newyorkdoll

Aww I'm glad you liked it! And thank you so much, I'll check out your blog now!
Deletemy cousin did archery when he was in high school and i thought it was so cool... sadly it's such an expensive sport because of the bow and arrow and stuff...
ReplyDeletestill find it cool though...
Aww that would be cool! But yeah I'm sure it is expensive :(
DeleteKatniss makes archery cool. :o)
ReplyDeleteArchery was cool before Katniss :P
DeleteHave you read Ranger's Apprentice? This is a good story with a boy who is far too short to be a good character, so the author takes the story and makes the character go through enough action to please readers who enjoy Gandalf figures, backstory, and archery. The author doesn't confirm it but throughout the series there are hints that the story takes place in a postapocalyptic future.
ReplyDeleteNo I haven't but it sounds cool!
